The GAO has
dropped its ill-conceived lawsuit against Vice-President Cheney's office. It was a terrible idea to begin with, fraught with separation-of-powers issues, and attacking the executive's rights to take advice and make decisions. The GAO is basically an independent body, although it does seem staffed with a lot of Democratic holdovers. The Post seems to blame at least some of the decision on the Republican takeover of the Senate, this seems gratuitous. More likely, lower-court reversals had more to do with it.
