Howard Dean & Afghanistan

Hugh Hewitt posted a plea for help, for contemporaneous evidence that Howard Dean actually supported the war in Afghanistan. There doesn't seem to be much. A Lexis-Nexis Search of the appropriate news sources, from September 01 to March 02, on "Howard Dean" and "Afghanistan" turned up nothing. Well, almost nothing:

"I think people have a stronger sense of community," said Gov. Howard Dean. And it has shifted the focus away from previously divisive issues.

"I haven't heard anybody complaining about civil unions since September 11," Dean said, a reference to the state's law granting gays and lesbians the benefits of marriage. "It puts fights like that in perspective."
